Astral Projection

Astral projection is when it feels like your spirit or “astral body” can leave your physical body while you’re asleep or in deep meditation. People often say it’s like traveling to different places or realms. It’s like exploring beyond your body without actually going anywhere.

Censorship in Dreams

Censorship in dreams happens when your mind hides or changes parts of a dream that might feel too tough to face directly. It’s a way of softening intense thoughts or memories. This usually makes certain messages in your dream feel symbolic or disguised.

Insight Dreams

Insight dreams bring clarity or answers to things you’re dealing with in your waking life. They can reveal ideas or solutions you didn’t notice before. Often, these dreams give you a fresh perspective on a problem.

Liminal Spaces

Liminal spaces in dreams are those weird, in-between places, like endless hallways or abandoned buildings, that feel kind of eerie. These places are like transitions, neither here nor there, and can add a strange, unsettling feeling. Dreaming of them might mean you're in a period of change or uncertainty.

Lucid Dream

A lucid dream is when you’re aware you’re dreaming and can even control parts of it sometimes. This state lets you explore or shape the storyline of your dream. It’s often vivid and feels almost real.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a natural hormone that helps your body know when it’s time to sleep by making you feel sleepy as it gets darker. It’s produced in your brain and plays a big role in helping you fall asleep. Some people take melatonin supplements to improve their sleep.

Sleep Cycles (Stages)

Sleep cycles are the different stages of sleep you go through each night, from light to deep and REM sleep. Each cycle lasts around 90 minutes and repeats several times to help you feel rested. These stages are important for refreshing different parts of your body and mind.

N1 Sleep

N1 sleep is the first, lightest stage of sleep where you’re just starting to drift off and can wake up easily. This stage only lasts a few minutes as you begin to relax. It’s the start of your journey through the deeper stages of sleep.

N2 Sleep

N2 sleep is a bit deeper than N1, where your body temperature drops, your muscles relax, and brain activity slows down. This stage makes up about half of your sleep time, helping prepare for the deeper stages. Sleep spindles, or little bursts of brain activity, also happen in N2.

N3 Sleep

N3 sleep is the deepest sleep stage, also called slow-wave sleep, where the body does most of its healing and recovery. In this stage, your breathing and heart rate are at their lowest. N3 is essential for feeling fully refreshed.

Rapid Eye Movement (REM)

REM sleep is when your brain gets active again, and most vivid dreams happen, with your eyes moving quickly under your eyelids. It’s a key stage for learning, memory, and mood. REM cycles happen several times a night and get longer toward morning.

Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM)

NREM includes all stages of sleep except REM, like N1, N2, and N3. It’s a period when your body recovers, working on things like muscle repair and immune support. NREM sleep is essential for feeling physically and mentally restored.

Prefrontal Cortex

The prefrontal cortex is the part of your brain that deals with decision-making, planning, and self-control. During sleep, it’s less active, which is why dreams can seem random or unrealistic. Its downtime allows your dreams to feel more uninhibited.

Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless leg syndrome is a condition where you feel a strong need to move your legs, especially when lying down at night. This can make it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. Moving your legs can relieve the feeling temporarily, but it often returns.

Sleep Spindles

Sleep spindles are quick bursts of brain activity that happen during N2 sleep, which help with memory and learning. They act as little “refreshers” for your brain, helping process new information. Sleep spindles also help keep you from waking up easily.

Slow-Wave Sleep

Slow-wave sleep is another name for deep sleep (N3 stage), where your brain waves slow down, and your body goes through major recovery. This stage restores your energy and helps with overall health. It’s when your body does much of its healing.

Venting Dreams

Venting dreams let you release emotions, stress, or frustration you’ve bottled up. These dreams can be intense or chaotic, almost like your mind is venting those feelings. They might seem confusing but help you feel less stressed after.

Wish Fulfillment Dreams

Wish fulfillment dreams are all about experiencing your desires, hopes, or fantasies that might be out of reach in real life. Freud thought these dreams let you satisfy unmet wants or longings. They can be playful, idealistic, or just plain impossible.

Dream

I dreamt that my adult children were showing me a video where there were people crowded on a porch and someone trying to push their way through the door fell backwards. They asked a rhetorical question then the scene started over and they were younger and we were driving past the house and witnessed it. Then they were even younger and it started again. This time we lived next door to the house and there was a parkway with woods behind our house. I was walking with the kids. The person who fell was a teenager but in this version of the dream he jumped and a bunch of people followed him like lemmings. He ran when he hit the ground and they ran after him. A border collie was in a yard with a white fence. The white fence had a big whole in it. When the dog saw the boy running it got upset and ran at him. She jumped to try to stop him from running and accidentally nipped at his face. The boy didn’t appear to be hurt but the boys family who ran after him including a very big, fat older man with a mustache and beard threatened to sue to have the dog put down. Each time my kids were younger they had different questions. When they were younger they weren’t rhetorical. I was anxious trying to explain things. The last situation I got involved in trying to defend the dog. The woman had two dogs that she struggled to control with the chaos. I asked if the dog had a rabies vaccination. She said no that those were horrible and I should never give a dog that shot. I said that was too bad that she thought that way because now she might have to quarantine the dog at a vet for 10 days at her expense of there’s an actual bite
